About Serbia
Serbia is Europe's hidden river-cruising gem: the Danube crosses the flat Vojvodina plain, passes Belgrade's dramatic fortress, and then slices through the Carpathians in the spectacular Iron Gates. This is a destination for milestone travelers who want history that is complicated and real, not a theme park. River cruising solves the logistics, keeps you comfortable, and puts you within walking distance of medieval fortresses, Ottoman-era streets, Art Nouveau squares, and some of the continent's most moving archaeological sites. Expect fewer crowds than Western Europe, honest food, fierce coffee culture, and a local pride that is as warm as it is stubborn.
Typical routes
- Lower Danube / Iron Gates
- Belgrade-centered / Sava-Danube
Ports overview
The Danube is the only river-cruise route through Serbia. Ships typically enter from Hungary, call at Novi Sad and Belgrade, then continue through the Iron Gates into Romania and Bulgaria. The Sava is navigable to Belgrade but rarely used by cruise vessels beyond the confluence.
Cruise season
April through June and September through October are the best months; July and August can be very hot. Most lines run from late March to early December.
