About Seychelles

Seychelles is a small, nature-rich archipelago in the western Indian Ocean. For the American traveler, it offers a rare combination of empty granite beaches, rare species, and Creole culture, best experienced on a small ship or with private guides. The trade-off is that the country is not a monument-dense destination, and cruise calls are weather-dependent; the reward is solitude, color, and an unhurried sense of place.

Typical routes

  • Inner Islands Loop – Victoria, Mahé, Praslin, La Digue, Curieuse; typically 7-10 days in Seychelles waters.
  • Indian Ocean Crossings – longer voyages connecting East Africa, Madagascar, Seychelles, Mauritius, Réunion, and sometimes the Maldives; Port Victoria is a mid-cruise or turnaround call.

Ports overview

Port Victoria is the only real deep-water cruise port in the Inner Islands. Smaller ships may call at Praslin and La Digue by tender, but schedules are weather-dependent. Seychelles is better suited to expedition-style and small-ship cruising than to mass-market calls.

Cruise season

Best conditions for cruising are April-May and October-November. June-September is drier but windier; December-March is warmer and wetter. Cyclone risk is very low, but swells can cause tender cancellations.
