About Tunisia
Tunisia sits on the northern edge of Africa, where the Mediterranean meets the Sahara. Its capital, Tunis, is the usual gateway for cruise ships, calling at La Goulette. From there, travelers reach the ruins of ancient Carthage, the blue-and-white hillside village of Sidi Bou Said, and the winding lanes of the Tunis medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Farther afield are the Roman amphitheatre at El Djem and the golden beaches of the coast. Visits are best in spring and autumn, when the days are warm without the summer heat. Cruises here pair easily with Malta, Sicily and Italy.
