Highlights

Brimming with authentic Austrian charm, Hotel Goldener Hirsch, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Salzburg, is a cherished symbol of exceptional hospitality and celebrated tradition. Dating back to 1407, the property embodies an enduring symbiosis between original country house and luxury boutique hotel, woven into the very fabric of Salzburg life. Steeped in history, the hotel's petite proportions understate its significance as a cultural landmark, where the crossroads of music, art and cuisine intersect. Located in the Baroque heart of the historic center, Hotel Goldener Hirsch inhabits the fairy tale setting with natural grace. In the bijoux lobby, white-washed walls and leather furniture are offset with ancient arches and historic artefacts, like the hand-carved reception desk and heirloom wooden key case. Traditionally dressed associates, wearing uniforms reminiscent of national Tracht, welcome guests with a rare warmth that resonates across generations. Renovation as a work of art: six centuries of history, the much beloved Goldener Hirsch style melds harmoniously with the most modern amenities. In 70 rooms and suites carefully curated antiques such as shoemaker's benches transformed into tables combine effortlessly with the latest televisions and coffee machines by Illy. Traditional "Fleckerlteppich" rugs complement the solid wood floors as well as hand-printed fabrics in pink, cornflower blue and red from the Salzburg firm Jordis. Refreshing sleep is assured in king-size and twin beds. Generously proportioned bathrooms in marble with porcelain by Villeroy & Boch offer shower or tub, or shower and tub. The view out onto Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz or Getreidegasse enchant, while soundproof windows ensure that rooms are always quiet. A full property renovation has been completed in July 2019. Largely unchanged since the days of Mozart, the city's evocative old town is where cobbled streets and unique architecture unfurl a narrative rich in folklore. Sharing a border with neighboring Munich, Salzburg is easily accessed by air or land, with the hotel only 6 miles from WA Mozart Airport and 480 miles from Austria's capital, Vienna.

Restaurant Goldener Hirsch

Overlooking Herbert von Karajan Square and the Festival Hall, the doors of Restaurant Goldener Hirsch open onto a space steeped in Salzburg’s history. Once a ferrier’s workshop where locals brought their horses to be shoed, the venue has evolved into one of the city’s most distinguished dining destinations, favored by government officials, world-class performers, and discerning travelers from around the world.

Restaurant Herzl

Known as the place to meet in Salzburg's center, Restaurant Herzl is the local year-round favorite that, during festival time, is the go-to après performance stop. Evidence of its historic prestige lies in the photos of musicians, which line the walls. Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, Helmut Luhner, and actor Curt Jurgens are among them. In 1767, the restaurant was a goldsmith shop. Today, guests enter from Karajanplatz into a folkloristic, creative atmosphere evocative of eras past. Waitresses wear dirndls to emphasize the traditional Austrian ambience. Dark wood tables and chairs populate the rooms while golden light from scattered lamps cast romance. Fine table linens serve as a simple background for authentic Salzburg cuisine. The restaurant's signature dish is the famous Nürnberger Bratwürstl, small roasted Nürnberg sausages served with sauerkraut.

Bar Goldener Hirsch

For traditional cocktails or fine Austrian and international wines, The Bar Goldener Hirsch's covered inner courtyard offers an authentic atmosphere. Try our Signature Cocktail Susanne and do not forget to ask our bartender about the Story behind this Cocktail.

Rooms & Suites

Classic Room

Classic Rooms (24–27 sqm) have been a symbol of Salzburg hospitality since 1407. Hand-crafted period furniture, paintings and handsome textiles such as traditional “Fleckerlteppich“rugs, create an atmosphere of noble comfort. The most modern technology (air conditioning, high-speed WLAN and flat-screen TVs) are integrated harmoniously. Bathrooms are dominated by luxurious marble and wood. The stag leaps as leitmotiv on accessories and tableware.

Deluxe Rooms

A relaxing hour in an armchair banishes the stress of the day. The spacious rooms measuring 28–32 sqm with a view onto Getreidegasse or the hotel’s peaceful courtyard are decorated with precious antiques and enchanting Goldener Hirsch details. High tech is integrated seamlessly. The Salzburg “Fleckerlteppich“ rugs are a must, as are hand-printed fabrics in pink, cornflower blue and red—everything summons up stylish hospitality that dates back to 1407. Opulent bathrooms in marble, wood and porcelain complement perfectly the make-up table in the living area.

Junior Suite

The Junior Suites, some with their own entrance hall, are luxury on 33–48 sqm. Here, Salzburg cosiness casts its spell. Two armchairs, in some rooms a sofa, and an antique shoemaker's bench as table form an inviting reading corner. Details like hand-printed fabrics in pink, cornflower blue and red, and distinctive "Fleckerlteppich" rugs lend the rooms the atmosphere for which the Goldener Hirsch is famed. High tech blends seamlessly. The bathrooms are decorated in red marble, wood and porcelain. The rooms offer views onto Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz and Festspielhaus, busy Getreidegasse, or the peaceful courtyard.

One Bedroom Suite

every one-bedroom suite (42–65 sqm) is individually decorated. Antiques, fine fabrics by Jordis in pink, cornflower blue and red, and the distinctive “Fleckerlteppich“ rugs radiate the Salzburg hospitality for which the Goldener Hirsch has been a byword since 1407. Bathrooms are luxuriously appointed in marble and wood. The porcelain is by Villeroy & Boch. The most up-to-date technology—flat-screen TVs, high-speed internet, climate-control system—notwithstanding these suites pay homage to the house’s proud history.

Two Bedroom Suite

The Luxury Collection here achieves the most exquisite perfection. A living area decorated with carefully curated antiques, two bedrooms and two bathrooms on a spacious 78–90 sq. m. The Salzburg hospitality typical of the Goldener Hirsch is reflected in every detail of the interior: hand-printed fabrics in pink, cornflower blue and red, and the distinctive “Fleckerlteppich“ rugs. The leaping stag is the leitmotiv leaping through the various features of the interior. High tech blends in seamlessly. The suites face the courtyard thus affording perfect tranquillity.
