The vision of Scotsman William Reid, this magnificent pink landmark opened in 1891 and went on to attract British and European royalty, presidents and politicians, actors and artists. Winston Churchill came to write his memoirs and paint, while George Bernard Shaw was inspired to extend his stay. The two Presidential Suites, named in their honour, offer the height of luxury. Coinciding with the opulent Edwardian era, Reid's is a grand statement of rich woods, lofty ceilings and elegant chandeliers. British artefacts are intertwined with hand-painted Portuguese tiles and local handicrafts that honour the island's multicultural character. The gardens, spanning 10 acres and showcasing over 500 species of flora, inspire the hotel's seasonal gastronomy. Sensational dining is offered in four restaurants, including the Michelin-starred William, cliffside Villa Cipriani and alfresco Brisa Do Mar. Afternoon tea on the chequered terrace is an iconic affair. Complimentary activities such as botanical art workshops and pilates continue the garden-centred immersion. The hotel's extraordinary location overlooking Funchal Bay and the wild Atlantic Ocean means breathtaking views and cool sea breezes are a feature of every stay. Three swimming pools include a tidal pool with ocean access. Most rooms are connecting with each other or with Superior Rooms.

Located in the garden wing, our spacious family rooms cater for all your needs when traveling with your children. Each room, decorated in tranquil hues, offers semi-private terraces overlooking our legendary tropical gardens.
