Days 1–5
Cape Town
Few ports make a first impression like Cape Town, where Table Mountain rises above a working harbor and the Atlantic. From the waterfront, you can reach the city’s museums, gardens and historic quarters within minutes. Ride the cableway to the summit, or follow the coast toward the Cape Peninsula’s beaches and vineyards. Look beyond the views: Cape Town’s layered history and lively food scene reward a slower visit.
-
Day 5
Johannesburg
Johannesburg rewards travelers who look beyond its airport and modern skyline. South Africa’s largest city grew from a gold rush in 1886. That history remains visible at Constitution Hill and the Apartheid Museum. In Soweto, visit Vilakazi Street, once home to Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. Explore contemporary galleries, then settle in for dinner in a city with a formidable restaurant scene.
-
Day 6
Kasane, Botswana
Kasane brings you to Botswana’s Chobe River, where elephant herds gather along the banks in remarkable numbers. Chobe National Park begins on the town’s doorstep, making game drives and river safaris natural first choices. From the water, watch elephants descend to drink and wildlife move through the riverfront landscape. Nearby, the Kazungula border crossing connects Botswana with Zambia, while Namibia and Zimbabwe are also close.

Day 6
Chobe National Park, Botswana
At Chobe National Park, the river is the main event. In northern Botswana, Chobe’s floodplains draw some of Africa’s largest elephant herds, especially in the dry season. A boat safari brings you close to bathing elephants, hippos and crocodiles. Game drives reveal giraffes, buffalo and predators along the banks. The best sightings often come early or late, when wildlife gathers at the water’s edge.

Day 9
Kasane, Botswana
Kasane brings you to Botswana’s Chobe River, where elephant herds gather along the banks in remarkable numbers. Chobe National Park begins on the town’s doorstep, making game drives and river safaris natural first choices. From the water, watch elephants descend to drink and wildlife move through the riverfront landscape. Nearby, the Kazungula border crossing connects Botswana with Zambia, while Namibia and Zimbabwe are also close.
-
Days 12–13
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Victoria Falls puts one of Africa’s great natural spectacles within easy reach. Here, the Zambezi River drops into a narrow basalt gorge, raising clouds of spray above the rainforest. Walk Victoria Falls National Park’s paths for successive viewpoints, each revealing another stretch of the cascade. Back in town, choose a Zambezi cruise or a relaxed dinner. The falls straddle Zimbabwe and Zambia; Zimbabwe’s side offers extensive viewing trails.
