  1. Days 1–2

    Paris City, France

Paris rewards travellers who look beyond its familiar landmarks. Follow the Seine past the Louvre and Notre-Dame; explore streets where cafés, markets and small museums reveal daily life. The Eiffel Tower still commands the skyline, but the best hours are spent walking, with time for lunch. Choose one or two neighbourhoods rather than racing across town; Paris is best experienced at street level.

  2. Day 2

    Evry-Courcouronnes, France

Évry, southeast of Paris, pairs a modern cityscape with the quieter banks of the Seine. Its landmark, the Cathedral of the Resurrection, was designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta and completed in 1995. Step inside to see its striking circular design, or take a riverside walk. RER D trains link Évry with central Paris, making the capital an easy day’s excursion.

  3. Day 3

    Melun, France

Melun sits on the Seine, about 40 kilometres southeast of Paris, where riverbanks frame a working French town. In the old centre, the collegiate church of Notre-Dame and timbered streets recall centuries of local history. A short drive away, Vaux-le-Vicomte’s grand 17th-century château and gardens helped shape the model for Versailles. Melun also lends its name to Brie de Melun, a protected, assertive cheese worth seeking at market.

  4. Day 4

    Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne, France

Moret-sur-Loing rewards a slower look. This historic town in Seine-et-Marne stands beside the Loing and its canal, about 65 kilometres southeast of Paris. Walk beneath medieval gateways to the Gothic church of Notre-Dame, then follow the river past mills and stone bridges. Alfred Sisley painted these streets and waterways; his canvases offer a guide to the town’s changing light.

  5. Day 5

    Montereau-Fault-Yonne, France

At the meeting of the Seine and Yonne, Montereau-Fault-Yonne offers a quieter, more intimate side of France’s river country. Walk its old streets to the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Loup, then pause where the two rivers join. The town also recalls Napoleon’s 1814 victory at the Battle of Montereau, commemorated by a statue on the bridge. This is a rewarding stop for history and unhurried riverside views.

  6. Days 6–7

    Sens-Yonne, France

Sens rewards unhurried visitors in northern Burgundy, where the Yonne River flows past a town shaped by trade and faith. Its Cathedral of Saint-Étienne, begun in the 12th century, ranks among France’s earliest Gothic cathedrals and remains a defining landmark. Inside, stained glass and a celebrated treasury reward close attention. Beyond the cathedral, quiet streets and handsome old façades make an easy, rewarding walk.
