  1. Day 1

    Seattle, USA

Seattle welcomes you with salt air, a working waterfront and mountain views. Downtown sights include Pike Place Market, the Seattle Art Museum and historic Pioneer Square. On clear days, the Space Needle offers views of Elliott Bay, Mount Rainier and the Cascades. Make time for fresh seafood and independent shops; Seattle’s neighborhoods reveal a city shaped by water, trade and innovation.

  2. Day 11

    Hakodate, Japan

Hakodate rewards travellers who look beyond the waterfront. At the morning market, vendors serve Hokkaido crab, sea urchin and squid caught in local waters. The star-shaped ramparts of Goryokaku tell a sharper story: Japan’s final years of samurai rule. Ride the ropeway up Mount Hakodate for a celebrated view of the city and its twin bays. Below, Motomachi’s churches and former consulates reflect the port’s opening to foreign trade in 1859.

  3. Day 13

    Akita City, Japan

Akita offers a quieter, distinctly Japanese day ashore, with samurai-era history and celebrated regional food. Senshu Park occupies the former grounds of Kubota Castle. At the Akita Museum of Art, a striking mural by local-born painter Tsuguharu Foujita commands attention. Try kiritanpo, rice mashed, shaped around cedar skewers and grilled, alongside local sake. In August, the Kanto Festival brings towering lantern poles into the streets, carried with remarkable balance.

  4. Day 14

    Muroran, Japan

Muroran rewards travelers who look beyond the harbor cranes. On Hokkaido’s southern coast, this working port pairs striking industrial views with cliffs, sea caves and open Pacific horizons. At Cape Chikyu, a lighthouse and observatory command one of the island’s most celebrated ocean panoramas. The sweeping Hakucho Bridge frames the bay, while nearby Noboribetsu offers famed hot-spring bathing. Come ashore for a revealing contrast: Japan at work, and nature at full scale.

  5. Day 16

    Yokohama, Japan

Yokohama is Japan’s most cosmopolitan port city, with Tokyo less than an hour away by train. Stay here, though, and you’ll find a city with its own strong character. Explore waterfront promenades, the historic Red Brick Warehouse, and one of Japan’s largest Chinatowns. Yokohama opened to foreign trade in 1859. Its international past still shapes the food, architecture, and relaxed pace of the city today.
