San Juan puts a remarkable piece of Caribbean history within easy reach of your ship. Founded in 1521, Old San Juan is a compact district of blue cobbles, pastel façades and Spanish colonial landmarks. Walk its steep lanes to El Morro, the 16th-century fortress that guards the harbor. From its ramparts, the Atlantic comes into view. Beyond the old walls, cafés, galleries and contemporary restaurants show a city still shaped by its maritime past.
Samaná sits on the Dominican Republic’s green northeast coast, where mountains descend toward a broad, sheltered bay. From January to March, humpback whales gather here to mate and calve, making boat trips a memorable reason to visit. On land, explore the waterfront town, ride horseback to El Limón waterfall, or cruise through Los Haitises National Park. Its limestone islets, mangroves and caves are best seen from the water.
Grand Turk rewards travelers who look beyond the cruise pier. Cockburn Town, the capital, pairs pastel Bermudian-style buildings with quiet streets shaped by the island’s salt industry. At the Turks and Caicos National Museum, discover the story of salt production and the 16th-century Molasses Reef shipwreck. Then swim turquoise shallows or dive the nearby reef wall, where the seabed plunges into deep blue.
Long Island sets Atlantic surf against the calm, clear waters of Exuma Sound. Stretching roughly 80 miles, this slender island rewards unhurried exploration by road. Swim at Cape Santa Maria, explore Hamilton’s Cave, or see Dean’s Blue Hole near Clarence Town. Small settlements, quiet beaches and wide-open views give the island a distinctly unhurried character.
Staniel Cay places you in the heart of the Exuma Cays, where limestone islands rise from clear Bahamian water. The village and Staniel Cay Yacht Club make a relaxed base for exploring by boat. Nearby, Thunderball Grotto is a sea cave featured in a James Bond film. Big Major Cay is known for its swimming pigs. Come for snorkelling, quiet beaches and unhurried days afloat.
Freeport gives you a practical base for exploring Grand Bahama, with beaches, nature and local life close at hand. On Grand Bahama Island, Port Lucaya Marketplace brings shops, restaurants and waterfront views within easy reach. Beyond town, Lucayan National Park rewards a visit with pine forest, coastal trails and striking caves. Its underwater cave system is among the world’s longest explored. Choose a beach day, a kayak trip through mangroves, or a quiet lunch beside the marina.
West Palm Beach offers palm-lined streets, Atlantic beaches and a lively waterfront. Downtown is a short drive from the Port of Palm Beach, in nearby Riviera Beach. Across the Intracoastal, Palm Beach island brings oceanfront scenery and the Flagler Museum. Browse Worth Avenue or spend an hour at the Norton Museum of Art. Clematis Street adds independent shops, restaurants and live music after dark.
