Day 1
Puerto Williams, Chile
Puerto Williams sits on Navarino Island, facing the Beagle Channel at the edge of Chilean Patagonia. Puerto Williams is often called the world’s southernmost city, set among sharp peaks, lenga forests and cold, open water. The Martín Gusinde Anthropological Museum traces the history of the Yaghan, whose ancestral homeland includes these channels. Beyond town, trails enter the Dientes de Navarino, a rugged range where wilderness begins almost at the doorstep.

Day 2
At Sea (At Sea)

Day 5
South Georgia Island
South Georgia is no conventional port of call; this remote, mountainous island is reached by expedition ship. Vast king penguin colonies gather beside beaches crowded with elephant seals. At Grytviken, a former whaling station, visit the museum, the church and Ernest Shackleton’s grave. Come for wildlife on an extraordinary scale, and for the stark history etched into this subantarctic landscape.

Day 8
At Sea (At Sea)

Day 12
Gough Island
Gough Island is a dramatic volcanic outpost in the South Atlantic, about 350 kilometres southeast of Tristan da Cunha. Gough belongs to Tristan da Cunha, not South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. Its cliffs and tussock slopes sustain vast seabird colonies, including the endangered Tristan albatross, within a UNESCO World Heritage site. Access is tightly controlled to protect wildlife, so visitors generally take in its stark, extraordinary profile from the sea.
-
Day 13
Tristan da Cunha Island
More than 1,500 miles from the nearest continent, Tristan da Cunha is the world’s most remote inhabited archipelago. Expect a voyage of about six days from Cape Town; Tristan has no airport, and landings depend on weather. Meet a close-knit community in Edinburgh of the Seven Seas, beneath Queen Mary’s Peak. The Atlantic sets the pace, and every landing feels earned.
-
Day 14
Nightingale Island
Nightingale Island is an uninhabited outpost in the South Atlantic, part of the British territory of Tristan da Cunha. A landing depends on sea and weather, with inflatable boats often the only way ashore. Volcanic cliffs and ocean spray frame vast seabird colonies, including rockhopper penguins and albatrosses. Few landfalls offer a closer encounter with wildness.
-
Day 15
At Sea (At Sea)
-
Day 18
Saint Helena Island
Saint Helena lies far out in the South Atlantic, 1,200 miles from Africa and 1,800 from South America. Ships once reached its steep volcanic shores after weeks at sea; today, the island’s airport makes arrival far easier. In Jamestown, Georgian streets climb a narrow valley beneath Ladder Hill, with Jacob’s Ladder rising above the rooftops. At Longwood House, Napoleon spent his final years in exile. Higher ground brings cloud forest, endemic wildlife and views from Diana’s Peak.

Day 20
At Sea (At Sea)
-
Day 22
Ascension Island
Ascension is a remote volcanic outpost in the South Atlantic, halfway between Africa and South America. Georgetown, its compact capital, looks across a harbor framed by lava slopes and open ocean. Beyond the coast, barren crater fields give way to Green Mountain’s cooler, cloud-fed forest and walking trails. During nesting season, green turtles come ashore on the island’s beaches. For travelers drawn to wild, elemental places, Ascension offers a rare pause between continents.

Day 23
At Sea (At Sea)
-
Day 26
Tema Harbour-Accra, Ghana
Tema is Ghana’s principal seaport, a planned city about 25 kilometres east of Accra. Its broad avenues and industrial skyline reveal a different side of Ghana from the capital’s historic quarters. Accra’s markets, museums and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park make a rewarding day ashore. Closer by, Tema’s fishing harbour and nearby beaches offer a quieter introduction to Ghana’s coast.
