  1. Day 1

    Southampton

Southampton is a working port with a rich maritime past. Walk its medieval city walls, then visit SeaCity Museum, where exhibits explore the city’s connection to the Titanic. The Mayflower began its 1620 voyage from Southampton, and the Titanic sailed from here in 1912. Beyond the waterfront, the New Forest’s heathland and Winchester’s cathedral make rewarding excursions.

  2. Day 3

    Cobh-Cork, Ireland

Cork is Ireland’s most independent-minded city, built on islands in the River Lee and shaped by its maritime past. Most cruise ships berth at Cobh, a handsome harbour town about 15 miles from Cork. A direct railway connects the two. Browse the English Market, visit St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, or seek out the city’s cafés and pubs. Allow time for Blarney Castle, a short drive away.

  3. Day 4

    Waterford, Ireland

Waterford is Ireland’s oldest city, founded by Vikings in 914, and its compact centre rewards exploration on foot. Begin at the Medieval Museum, where the city’s story unfolds through remarkable objects, including a fragment of ornate cloth-of-gold vestments. Then follow the Viking Triangle’s lanes to Reginald’s Tower, a riverside landmark that has stood watch for centuries. Allow time for Waterford’s celebrated crystal, still made here, and a meal of local seafood beside the River Suir.

  4. Day 5

    Liverpool

Liverpool’s waterfront makes a striking first impression, but the city’s appeal reaches well beyond the Mersey. At Pier Head, the Three Graces—the Royal Liver, Cunard and Port of Liverpool buildings—reflect the city’s maritime wealth. The Cavern Quarter recalls the Beatles’ early years, while the Walker Art Gallery offers a strong collection of European art. Leave time to explore the Georgian Quarter’s handsome streets and independent cafés.

  5. Day 6

    Isle of Man

Douglas, the Isle of Man’s capital, welcomes visitors with a broad seafront. Its Victorian promenade and Manx Museum offer a concise introduction to the island’s history. Ride the electric railway north to Ramsey, or visit Tynwald Hill, where the island’s parliament holds its annual open-air sitting. Beyond town, rugged cliffs, sandy bays and quiet roads reward exploration on foot or by car.

  6. Day 7

    Greenock-Glasgow

Greenock places you on the broad Firth of Clyde, with the hills of Argyll rising across the water. Once a shipbuilding and trading powerhouse, this port rewards a closer look at its waterfront. The neoclassical Custom House, built between 1818 and 1822, is one of Scotland’s finest examples of its kind. Glasgow’s museums and architecture are within reach, while the Clyde coast offers quieter views and small-town stops.

  7. Day 9

    Aberdeen

Aberdeen’s grey granite catches the light, giving Scotland’s northeast city a character all its own. The Aberdeen Maritime Museum traces how shipbuilding, fishing and North Sea oil shaped the city. Old Aberdeen is a handsome quarter of cobbled lanes and historic buildings. At King’s College, founded in 1495, the crown tower and chapel offer a striking glimpse of Scotland’s university heritage.

  8. Day 10

    Leith-Edinburgh

Leith brings Edinburgh within reach, but rewards those who stay by the water. Once a working port, this lively district pairs maritime history with independent restaurants, galleries and a strong local character. At Ocean Terminal, step aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, the former royal residence now open to visitors. Trams and buses connect you with the capital: Edinburgh Castle, its museums and Georgian streets make an easy day ashore.

  9. Day 12

    Aalborg, Denmark

Aalborg rewards a closer look than its modest profile suggests. On the Limfjord, Denmark’s fourth-largest city pairs Viking heritage with a modern waterfront and confident architecture. At Lindholm Høje, Viking graves and a museum reveal a settlement that flourished over a thousand years ago. Back in town, the Utzon Center and House of Music anchor a waterfront reshaped for walking, dining and lingering.

  10. Day 13

    Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen is best explored at street level, where royal history meets modern design. At Nyhavn, colorful harbor-front houses frame canal tours; nearby Amalienborg Palace is the monarch’s winter residence. Christiansborg Palace combines Denmark’s parliament with historic royal rooms, while Christianshavn’s canals reveal a quieter side. Pause for smørrebrød, the open-faced rye-bread staple, and explore the city’s design shops before returning to port.
