  1. Day 1

    Lavrion, Greece

Lavrion sits on Attica’s southeastern coast, about 60 kilometres from central Athens. Its ancient silver mines helped fund the Athenian fleet that defeated Persia at Salamis. Today, the harbor serves the Cyclades, while traces of mining history remain in town and at nearby archaeological sites. A short drive brings you to Cape Sounion, where the Temple of Poseidon commands a headland above the Aegean.

  2. Day 2

    Spetses Island, Greece

Spetses lies in the Saronic Gulf, a short ferry ride from the Peloponnese and within reach of Athens. Its elegant harbor town invites slow discovery: neoclassical mansions, pine-fringed lanes and waterfront cafés gather around Dapia. Private cars are largely absent, so explore on foot, by bicycle, water taxi or horse-drawn carriage. The Bouboulina Museum traces the island’s pivotal role in Greece’s War of Independence. Stay for the sea at dusk.

  3. Day 3

    Pylos, Greece

Pylos stands above the sheltered waters of Navarino Bay, where a deep natural harbor shaped centuries of maritime history. At the town’s southern edge, Niokastro fortress commands the entrance; its Ottoman walls date to 1573. The 1827 Battle of Navarino, fought in the bay, helped secure Greek independence. Nearby, the Palace of Nestor reveals Mycenaean life, while Voidokilia’s crescent beach curves beside Gialova Lagoon. Explore this coast at an unhurried pace.

  4. Day 4

    Kefalonia Island, Greece

Your first view of Kefalonia may be Argostoli, a working harbor framed by hills and the Ionian Sea. From here, roads lead to traditional villages, the underground lake at Melissani, and the sweeping shore of Myrtos Beach. Argostoli merits a pause for its palm-lined waterfront, lively market, and loggerhead turtles that forage in the harbor. Choose one excursion rather than rushing the island; winding roads make distances longer than the map suggests.

  5. Day 5

    Paxos Island, Greece

Paxos lies south of Corfu, a compact Ionian island best explored at an unhurried pace. In Gaios, Venetian buildings frame a sheltered harbour where fishing boats share the water with visiting yachts. Take a boat along the western coast to see sea caves and pale cliffs, then swim from a secluded cove. Inland, centuries-old olive groves lead to quiet villages and views across the Ionian Sea.

  6. Day 6

    At Sea (At Sea)

  7. Day 7

    Kotor, Montenegro

At the head of Montenegro’s Bay of Kotor, the old town sits beneath steep mountains. Enter through the Sea Gate and follow stone lanes to St Tryphon’s Cathedral. Venetian-era walls frame squares, churches, and cafés within a compact UNESCO-listed center. For a broader view, climb toward San Giovanni Fortress; the steps are demanding. Take water and allow time for the ascent, especially in summer heat. From the harbor, the bay’s changing light makes a memorable arrival and departure.

    • Coastal Cruising (Coastal Cruising)
  8. Day 8

    Dubrovnik, Croatia

Spend a day inside Dubrovnik’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, best explored on foot. Walk the city walls for close views of fortifications, roofs, and harbor. Then follow Stradun to Rector’s Palace and the Franciscan monastery. Book wall access in advance during busy months, and start early in summer. Mount Srđ offers a higher view, reached by cable car or road. Leave time for side lanes; their quieter corners reveal the city’s daily rhythm.
