Day 1
Villefranche-sur-Mer, France
Villefranche-sur-Mer makes an unusually graceful first impression: pastel houses rise above one of the Riviera’s deepest natural harbors. Wander the old town’s narrow lanes, then visit the 16th-century citadel and its museums. Jean Cocteau’s painted Chapel of Saint-Pierre adds a distinctive local detail. Nearby trains connect you with Nice; roads lead to Èze and the wider Côte d’Azur.
-
Day 2
Portofino, Italy
Portofino is a small Ligurian harbour, framed by green hills and pastel façades. On its crescent waterfront, fishing boats share the view with polished yachts. From the piazzetta, lanes climb to Castello Brown, a former fortress overlooking the harbour and coast. Walk on to the lighthouse at Punta del Capo, or take a boat to nearby Santa Margherita Ligure. A table by the water offers the best reason to linger.
-
Day 3
Menton, France
Menton sits between the Mediterranean and the Maritime Alps, close to the Italian border. Its pastel old town climbs above the waterfront, where steep lanes lead to the baroque Basilica of Saint-Michel. Menton celebrates its citrus heritage at the annual Fête du Citron, known for fruit sculptures and parades. Pause on the promenade or explore the town’s celebrated gardens. This is a Riviera stop best enjoyed on foot, at a leisurely pace.
-
Day 4
Antibes, France
Antibes rewards a shore day with a medieval old town and sea-facing ramparts. At Port Vauban, yachts fill one of Europe’s largest marinas; beyond it, the Côte d’Azur meets the water. Browse the stalls of Marché Provençal, then visit the Picasso Museum in Château Grimaldi. Take in the ramparts before settling over a leisurely lunch. Juan-les-Pins, known for its beaches and summer jazz festival, lies next door.
-
Day 5
Cannes, France
Arrive in Cannes and the Riviera’s polished glamour is immediately on show. Follow the palm-lined Croisette past Belle Époque hotels, designer boutiques and the Palais des Festivals, home of the film festival. Then climb into Le Suquet, the old quarter, for narrow lanes and views across the harbour. At Marché Forville, local produce and Provençal specialities offer a taste of everyday life. Ferries to the Lérins Islands make an easy escape to pine-scented shores.
-
Day 6
Saint-Tropez, France
Saint-Tropez is more than a name on a yacht’s bow. Its Vieux Port remains active with fishing boats and pleasure craft. Ochre façades and narrow lanes lead into the old town. Climb to the 17th-century citadel for sea views and the Maritime History Museum. At Place des Lices, cafés and plane trees frame local life. Pampelonne’s celebrated beaches lie a short drive away.
-
Day 7
Cassis, France
Cassis is a Provençal harbor town set between the sea and the cliffs of Cap Canaille. The old port pairs pastel façades and café terraces with fishing boats. From here, boat trips and footpaths lead into Calanques National Park, where pale coves cut into the coast. Cassis is also known for white wines from its surrounding vineyards, especially good with fresh seafood. Come for an unhurried taste of Provence, with Marseille close enough for a day excursion.
-
Day 8
Villefranche-sur-Mer, France
Villefranche-sur-Mer makes an unusually graceful first impression: pastel houses rise above one of the Riviera’s deepest natural harbors. Wander the old town’s narrow lanes, then visit the 16th-century citadel and its museums. Jean Cocteau’s painted Chapel of Saint-Pierre adds a distinctive local detail. Nearby trains connect you with Nice; roads lead to Èze and the wider Côte d’Azur.
