  1. Day 1

    Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires is a city of broad boulevards, grand theatres and late dinners, with a distinctly Argentine pulse. From the port, explore La Boca’s vivid lanes or San Telmo’s antique market. Recoleta adds belle époque architecture; Palermo brings leafy parks, galleries and restaurants. Make time for a steakhouse and a tango performance, two traditions that give the capital its lasting character.

  2. Day 8

    Tristan da Cunha Island

More than 1,500 miles from the nearest continent, Tristan da Cunha is the world’s most remote inhabited archipelago. Expect a voyage of about six days from Cape Town; Tristan has no airport, and landings depend on weather. Meet a close-knit community in Edinburgh of the Seven Seas, beneath Queen Mary’s Peak. The Atlantic sets the pace, and every landing feels earned.

  3. Day 9

    Nightingale Island

Nightingale Island is an uninhabited outpost in the South Atlantic, part of the British territory of Tristan da Cunha. A landing depends on sea and weather, with inflatable boats often the only way ashore. Volcanic cliffs and ocean spray frame vast seabird colonies, including rockhopper penguins and albatrosses. Few landfalls offer a closer encounter with wildness.

  4. Day 16

    Richards Bay

Richards Bay is less a postcard harbour than a practical gateway to KwaZulu-Natal’s wild north. Beyond its busy industrial waterfront, the Indian Ocean coast opens to long beaches, lagoons and bird-rich wetlands. From here, excursions reach iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the game reserves of Zululand. Choose a safari for rhino and elephant, or head to St Lucia for boat trips among hippos and crocodiles. Richards Bay rewards travellers who look beyond the port gates.

  5. Day 17

    Maputo, Mozambique

Maputo is Mozambique’s lively capital, where Indian Ocean trade meets a distinctly Portuguese urban legacy. From the port, broad avenues lead into Baixa, the historic centre. Here, tiled façades, cafés and the striking Central Railway Station reveal the city’s Portuguese-era character. Visit the Central Market for cashews and spices, then pause over grilled prawns, a Maputo speciality. The city is best explored slowly, with time for its waterfront and layered history.

  6. Day 19

    Durban

Durban meets the Indian Ocean on South Africa’s east coast, with long beaches and cosmopolitan energy. Along the Golden Mile, the beachfront promenade offers a bracing walk and views of Moses Mabhida Stadium. Try bunny chow, the city’s celebrated curry-filled bread, then browse spices and crafts at Victoria Street Market. Durban’s Zulu heritage and Indian influence give the city a character—and a cuisine—well worth exploring.

  7. Day 21

    Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabeth, now officially Gqeberha, faces Algoa Bay in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. See the city’s maritime past at Donkin Reserve, then follow Route 67’s public art and heritage landmarks. Long beaches invite a coastal walk, while Addo Elephant National Park is within easy driving distance. Choose a wildlife excursion or time beside the water; both offer a rewarding introduction to this coastal city.

  8. Day 22

    Mossel Bay

Mossel Bay sits midway along South Africa’s Garden Route, where the Indian Ocean meets a rugged stretch of coast. Portuguese navigator Bartolomeu Dias landed here in 1488. The Dias Museum Complex explores his voyage and Mossel Bay’s maritime past. Walk the Point for ocean views beneath the Cape St Blaize lighthouse, or linger over fresh seafood. Nearby beaches and sheltered coves offer an easy escape from the port.

  9. Day 24

    Cape Town

Few ports make a first impression like Cape Town, where Table Mountain rises above a working harbor and the Atlantic. From the waterfront, you can reach the city’s museums, gardens and historic quarters within minutes. Ride the cableway to the summit, or follow the coast toward the Cape Peninsula’s beaches and vineyards. Look beyond the views: Cape Town’s layered history and lively food scene reward a slower visit.
